Team consisted of:-
Lauren Morris, Isobel Walshaw, Mia Preston, Charlee Napier-Hill, Iyla
Lidgard, Felicity Bath, Kate Robertson, Andria Symington, Tylah Vallance, Ebonie
Warton, and Hannah Fisher.
For the first time thanks to Mr Ben Krisher (Mrs Krisher’s husband who works over at Terrigal), Wamberal P.S. and Terrigal P.S. were playing off for not only a spot in the next knockout round but also a unique trophy! Due to our close proximity and continual “competitive banter” by students AND teachers, each time our two schools compete against each other in a team sport, we will also be fighting for this trophy.
OK….so on with the game…..Terrigal won the toss and elected to field. Isobel and Lauren opened the batting but Isobel was quickly back in the sheds bowled by a quick ball. Terrigal bowled really well and within an over or two Mia, Charlee and Iyla were also sitting back down, all bowled by the Terrigal bowlers. At 4/18 Wamberal was in trouble. Felicity, Andria and Tylah all scored runs off the bat and settled the team down. With some help from
“extras” our score moved along to 7/45. Lauren was finally out, Hannah and particularly Ebonie hung in with Kate, who top scored with 6 runs from some great hits through the fielders, to get our score to 9/76 off 25 overs.
And then we fielded……….
Iyla bowled the first Terrigal player off the first ball, what a great start!! Kate chimed in for the next out - the first of her many catches at wicketkeeper. Andria, Tylah, Felicity, Iyla and Issy all bowled fantastic, with Issy having the best figures. The bowlers were supported with tremendous fielding highlighted by a wonderful runout by Andria and a super catch by Tylah, getting out the dangerous Libby Gouw (an ex-Wamberal student) who was
hitting the ball all over the place. Kate finished with 4 awesome catches, one was a diving catch to her right, with the ball just sticking in her glove.
In the end the girls bowled out the Terrigal team for only 45 runs and won the game. I want to congratulate both teams for playing the game in the spirit of sportsmanship and
teamwork. All the Wamberal students should be proud of their effort and support of each other during the day. Every player contributed in their own small way to a fantastic result. I have to congratulate the Terrigal girls on the way they also played –a super effort and I know Mr Krisher was so pleased with their mprovement.
A HUGE thank you to the Mum's and Dad who helped transport the players to Wyoming and to Mr Walshaw who umpired, without your support the girls could not have played,
