5/6J Maths - How to draw the perfect circle!

Think you know how to draw the perfect circle? Well 5/6J applied their problem solving strategies to do just that!

Here are some of the strategies 5/6J used:

"Our group made our circle by getting a piece of chalk and then getting a piece of string and tied it around the chalk. When we drew the circle, we put the string on the ground and held it down. We then stretched out the string and drew on the ground, all the way around to make our circle!" - Connor

"First we got some string and some chalk. Then we tied the string around the chalk. Someone held the end of the string on the ground and another person held the string tight and spun it around on the ground 360 degrees until we made a circle!" - Heath

"First we got some things that we could use including tape, string, ribbon and chalk. Then we had to draw a circle using our tools to try and make the circle PERFECT! Our strategy that we used was get a 1 metre ruler and put marks at the end of the ruler and then at the end we kind of did like dot to dot to join them all up." - Layne

Firstly we thought about the materials we should use. We picked up chalk and a 1 metre ruler. We then marked halfway then marked the two ends. We did the same thing all the way around until we could join it ourself. It worked really well and the circle looked symmetrical" :) - Lily

Tom, Jye, Cooper and Noah went to Gosford Regional Art Gallery on 18th June, 2012 to take part in painting the Aboriginal Mural 2012. The boys had a great time looking around the art gallery and also enjoyed helping create a fantastic artwork that will be displayed in the gallery for the next month.

Well Term 2 has lots of sports action in it despite the rain.

Good luck to Logan (5/6J) who represents Sydney North Region next week in the PSSA Rugby League Championships at Adcock Park, Gosford West. He will be playing against all the other regions throughout NSW. Play hard and fair Logan !!!!!

On Friday 15/6 the Classic Shield Rugby League team will be competing at EDSAAC. Several Stage 3 boys are representing the school..... good luck!  :-)

The WPS Girls Netball team will be competing in a netball gala day next Thursday. Have fun!

Lastly the Athletics Carnival has a new date .... Thursday 26/7 (Term 3 Week 2). Fingers crossed the rain stays away this time.

Further updates and pictures to follow.
