During term 2 Stage 3 students studied a unit designed to enable them to understand what waste is and what are the issues associated with waste. Each class created their own mini-landfill and subsequently looked at it over the term to see how the waste was breaking down.....yuk!! We also looked at alternatives to landfill such as worm farms, composting, recycling and upcycling. During the term all the classes visited the school worm farm and compost area. They were instructed by the students who are part of the school environmental group, who also look after our vege patch with Mrs Hercok. Students in 5/6J also completed a group project on the yellow bin, green bin and other ways to recycle. These pictures show the landfill, the worm farm and their finished panels in the classroom. What an awesome job everyone did!! :-)
