Miss Simpson taught 6T about Aboriginal artwork and artefacts. They enjoyed learning about the culture and particularly enjoyed making noise with tapping sticks. Students created their own artwork using a variety of media.
Students from 6T wrote and performed raps using their 'long o' spelling words. We definitely have some future rappers in our class!
On the last day the group visited the Australian Mint and travelled home......exhausted!!! On Day 3 the group visited the National Museum of Australia, followed by the High Court and Questacon. In the evening we toured the AIS, where we were staying. On Day 2 Year 6 visited Black Mountain Telstra Tower which allows a spectacular 360 degree view of Canberra. The group then visited The Australian War Memorial and was facilitated through an ANZAC Legacy Program and Hands-On session which the students enjoyed. From there we visited the National Library of Australia and found out about how cool a library really is.......robots and all!! After dinner we visited the CSIRO Discovery Centre and participated in some very exciting science experiements......so fun! The students visited Parliament House to gain an insight into Australia's parliamentary system. They heard about the workings of both the House of Representatives and Senate. They also participated in an hour 'role-play' program. Funnily our two school captains, Kai and Samara, played the prime Minister in their respective role-plays!!!! Bus ride.......lunch in Old Parliament House Rose Gardens......Visit to National Electoral Education Centre and Embassy Drive. Arriving at school at 5:45am.......getting ready to board the bus!!!!! Congratulations Year 6 on a wonderful excursion and a big thank you to Mr Downes, Mrs Hercok, Mrs Jenkin, Mrs Cullen and our year 6 parents for making it possible.
The excursion was an opportunity for the students to consolidate their knowledge of Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. To assist in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate programme toward the travel expenses incurred. This contribution was paid directly to the school. It was very fun but too many educational activities - Bailey Amazing, excellent and exciting - Nate Questacon was fabulous! - Westley Canberra was lots of fun, I’d love to go again - Spencer Questacon was amazing, especially the 6 foot drop - Ben Questacon was my favourite part, great fun - Chelsea E Canberra had a lot of variety and really interesting places to visit - Kai Canberra was really fun and a lot of things were very interesting - Brainna The AIS tour was awesome - Haidyn I really enjoyed visiting lots of places and I learnt lots of stuff on the tours - Alicia I likes the dry ice experiments at the CSIRO - Paris I liked it a lot because it was educational but at the same time we got to have a lot of fun - Andria Canberra was fun and we learnt lots about democracy and science - Mia P I thought the Royal Australian Mint was really interesting - Mia S Going on the giant slide at Questacon was lots of fun – Noah I really liked how the biggest robot lifted up the barrels and the rest worked as a team at the Australian Mint. - Craig I had lots of fun on the giant drop at Questacon. One of my friends was really scared and it took him four times to go down but I went down on the first go. - Tom Zone 3 (Lasertag) was an amazing time, even if you weren’t playing you still had the arcade games. Also at Questacon I played a game of airhockey against the machine. There was a four-way game as well. - Oliver Lasertag was awesome because I got to sneak around and shoot the teachers!! My team won. - Chloe All the night time activities were fun. Running around and doing things with my friends was great, like Lasertag. - Isobel I thought the Australian War Memorial was really interesting. At Questacon the earthquake room was really fun and the giant drop was exciting. - Macy Canberra was awesome and a highly educational experience. We firstly went to Parliament House and had a bit of a tour and then we played laser tag to get rid of all our energy. The next few days were the same and I would personally give this trip a ten out of ten. I thank all the teachers very much. We went to basically all of the 5 star places and I am very grateful to have seen all of the awesome highlights and spectacular tours. - Kathline Canberra was fantastic. Questacon and laser tag was awesome. Questacon was fun, especially the drop. Nick was so funny. We tried all sorts of activities like the earthquake room. Laser tag was really fun. I came third the first round and first the second round. The War Memorial was very interesting. The activities we did in there were also fun, like the submarine. There was a hatch that you’d open and it said, “This is what it would smell like if you were in a submarine for weeks.”It was fun and the food was great. - Connor F Questacon was the best activity of the day, but my favourite thing at Questacon was free fall. The free fall was a slide that had a giant drop. You would have to hang on to bars and then let go. You would drop 2 metres then the slide would curve and finish. - Niamh Canberra was awesome! It was a great experience and I learnt so much about parliament, how coins are made and much, much more. I became closer to my friends and loved the AIS. I had so much fun and I’m sure all of my friends had fun also. I really enjoyed the War Memorial, CSIRO, Questacon, The Mint and Parliament House. I loved listening to the stories at the War Memorial, playing with dry ice at the CSIRO, the enjoyment and laughs at Questacon the experience at the Mint and the education and facts at Parliament House. - Samara I liked staying at the AIS because they had a fridge, sink, our own key card and a heater. - Connor E Canberra was cool. All of the activities were so fun, especially Questacon, AIS and Parliament House. Also, staying at the AIS was really cool. It was cool at the thought of staying in the same place as real athletes. Plus the food was really yummy. If I could, I would go back and do it all over again! - Maya I was really taken back by all the poppies on the wall at the war memorial. It was also really interesting doing experiments with dry ice at CSIRO. I also found out that CSIRO invented Wi Fi. - Chloe War memorial was a really good experience and I learnt a lot through the stories I heard.
