Girls Cricket
Well the dream is finally over for the Senior Girls Cricket Team. When the team was picked back in Term 2 to participate in the PSSA Knockout, a group of 12 girls, all of whom hadn’t ever played cricket before, decided to give it a go. WOW! Who knew a Central Coast
Final of not only the PSSA Knockout Tournament but also the Regional Final of the T20 Blast Cup awaited the team.
The team consisted of Andria, Kate , Mia , Hannah , Isobel , Tylah , Lauren , Felicity , Iyla , Charlee and Ebonie .
The team had a bye in Round 1 and after beating Bateau Bay in Round 2, the girls played our local nemesis Terrigal Public in the third round. Rain couldn’t even deter our girls and after a
washout beat Terrigal to continue to the next round. This is when due to a couple of players not being available we picked up Samara , Erin , Petria and Emma . They turned out to be fabulous replacements. Wamberal then played Kanwal Public who had an awesome opening bowling duo who decimated the top order. The tenacity of Petria and Erin kept Kanwal at bay and Wamberal went through victorious and into the Central Coast Final against Niagara Park. This is when the story ends….sadly our gallant girls
were no match for the strong Niagara Park team who took out the game and have
advanced to the State Championships in the Southern Highlands.
The team also competed in the T20 Blast Cup and after an awesome gala day at Wyong were invited to play in the Regional Final. After an exhausting day we finished 4th. Another fabulous effort.
I wanted to pass on my congratulations to every member of the team; your sportsmanship, team spirit and enthusiasm were a credit to yourselves and Wamberal Public School. A huge thank you to Geoff Walshaw who umpired for us every game and to the ‘Rent-a-Crowd’ of parents and family members who not only helped with transport but also assisted at the
before-school trainings. You helped make this whole experience memorable!!
